I would give it a 3.5 but I can't. Decent food, large portions and price is right. We went for an early dinner before an Artpatk concert. Two of us got the Greek salad and spanakopita. Salad was nice, all iceberg, but had olives, red onion, cukes, tomatoes and feta. A bottle of tasty Greek dressing was on the table. The spanakopita was tasty, but didn't have the multiple crunchy layers of phyllo dough. My son got fried shrimp and it was a generous portion served with fries. My other son got a fish sandwich also served with fries - they are the battered kind, ok, but worth "the best I have ever had" status? No. We agreed that we would like to come back and try the burgers or breakfast. I was a little afraid to try the gyro meat or souvlakis because I am a Greek food snob having lived near Astoria in Queens. This place would be a nice in between from a pizza joint to a more upscale restaurant. Kids menu, easily handicap accessible - young and old both would be satisfied here.

Unbelievable. Granted we walked in at 8:30 and the close at 9 but I shouldn't have to listen to a ratty old vacuumed my entire meal. Who makes a gyro with stew meat. Guess it was a long night. Even the manager was counting the register at 9:10. The fish and fries were ok. We are from pa. Is it ok for the cook to prepare food in a muscle shirt in ny? Wonder where all those arm pit hairs go.

So, Syros is essentially a diner. When I think diner I think dirty, sketchy, prideless food. So, here's how a diner gets above 3 stars. The place looks nice, is always clean, the servers are always good, and the food shows a level of care. It's not heavy on greek stuff (I wish it was, actually) but the best thing on the menu is the souvlaki platter. Beware, sometimes the specials are not all winners. For example, I had a lamb shank there. It was very, very gross and I felt like I was in an anatomy class. However, if you stick to the diner essentials, you will be OK. It is what it is. I can take my kids there, and they'll get chocolate chip pancakes in the shape of mickey mouse for dinner and they freakin love it. Also, their fries are pretty much my favorite fries. They are delicious. It's clean, contemporary, and the food is above par for local diner standards.

Great food! Best French fries ever. Our family of four was passing through and stopped in for lunch. We were well fed at a great price. Ravioli, spanikopita salad and a couple of chicken wraps. Service was excellent too. No lunch size portions, but it was not necessary because the serving sizes were just right. This was a great find.

The food was excellent here. Honestly, probably the best french fries that I've had. The portion size is very large. Can't go wrong eatting at this restaurant!

I ordered the meatloaf dinner at lunchtime (takeout) and was very disappointed. The menu said is was "smothered in our own gravy" - mine had no gravy at all! The mashed potatoes were very dry with no butter or gravy.

I ordered the greek penne pasta and an order of mozzarella sticks to go. The pasta was incredibly mushy and tasted horrible. The mozzarella sticks were not fully cooked, but were edible. My husband called the restaurant and they asked us to drive back the pasta for a refund (we didn't even mention the mozz sticks). The manager would only give us $5.00 back because he disagreed with us about the pasta being mushy. I was not happy with the food quality or the service.

I would hesitate to call this Greek, but they do have gyros, salads with feta cheese, and beef and chicken 'souvlaki'. For me, souvlaki is lamb. The Greek skillet breakfast is pretty good and unique (even among Greek joints). The avogolemno soup is the real thing. In the last year they went from weak to a pretty good diner with some neat entries. A year ago, they were a 3. They kicked it up and deserve a 4. They went from quirky local place to as good a breakfast or lunch place as anywhere. We go there for breakfast and lunch regularly from the office, never been for dinner. Good portions. Reasonable prices. Lots of selection.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
